The story revolves around a joint family headed by Mian Ji, who lives with his wife, Zaitoon Bano, his three sons and their families, and his unmarried daughter Zoya. The family is concerned about Zoya's marriage. Hajira, Zoya's eldest sister-in-law, had invited her friend’s son Aqdus to stay with the family while he looked for an apartment after returning from abroad.
Aqdus has fallen in love with Zoya and has asked his mother to approach the family with a marriage proposal. His mother's decision to ask for Zoya's hand creates an unexpected situation because the family had assumed that Aqdus would eventually marry Shaina, Hajira's daughter.
